When a Zoo Messes Up…

Millions of children have only ever seen wildlife by visiting of a zoo. They provide valuable research. But sometimes things go wrong.

When a zoo messes up, it places the lives of the animals inside it at risk. The first zoos, or menageries, were private collections of animals owned by wealthy people to show off their power. These date back to the ancient Egyptians.

It is hard to know if captivity is really as good for the animals as some zoologists say, because they cannot speak for themselves. But they will be there are long as the public wants to visit them and in doing so, keep them in business. It is also hard for any zoo to keep a perfect record. Things will go wrong eventually.

There are so many people who love animals but perhaps its time to consider a future when animals can live in their own spaces.
